Room_Mates was born in the summer of 2022. During a conversation with a friend, we realized how many recent graduates we knew were moving to big cities and needed roommates due to the high cost of housing. Many of them were resorting to Facebook posts or Instagram stories to find people to live with. It struck me as strange that, in an age where there’s an app for almost every aspect of life, there wasn’t a dedicated app for finding roommates.Having transferred schools twice, I experienced firsthand the cumbersome process of navigating outdated university systems to find a roommate. I entered my information into complex databases only to end up manually sifting through profiles, hoping to find a compatible match. This made me think—why isn’t there a more streamlined solution, especially when having roommates is often mandatory?The same pattern emerged off-campus: students and young professionals alike were posting on general university sites or social media to fill rooms in shared houses. It became clear that a centralized platform, combining automated matching and detailed profiles, could transform this experience.This inspired us to build Room_Mates—a platform that simplifies the process of finding roommates by offering an intuitive, all-in-one app with a smart matching algorithm.Our mission is to become the go-to app for anyone seeking a roommate, starting from university campuses and expanding to cities worldwide. We want to ensure that students have a better overall college experience and help young professionals achieve their dreams of living anywhere they imagine, knowing that Room_Mates has their back in finding the perfect roommate to share their journey.
